Great Western Railway Churchward 4200 Class 2-8-0T
Introduced in 1912, these extremely powerful tank locomotives were responsible for handling the among the heaviest coal traffic in South Wales and invariably across the rest of the GWR network.
104 locomotives were built between 1912 and 1923 (excluding the 1910 prototype) and all gave excellent service for the better part of 50 years. Further development gave way for the 5205 Class, and some examples were later modified as the 7200 Class 2-8-2Ts.
Represented here are the 5 preserved locomotives from the 4200 range. The other types will come soon.
